Visit the official ports release site.

Download and burn the PowerPC+PS3 release.

If you updated to firmware 1.6 then you only need otheros.bld which is the bootloader.
On the Ubuntu ISO you can find the otheros.bld, or you can use any other compatible loader.
1) Copy the ‘otheros.bld’ to ‘/PS3/otheros/otheros.bld’ on a USB stick.
2) Plug the USB stick into the PS3.
3) Go to ‘Settings → System Settings → Install Other OS’.
The following installer items were found: Title /PS3/otheros/otheros.bld Location USB Device
4) Set the default system to OtherOS.
5) Format the hdd.
1) To install at a different resolution, at the kboot prompt type:
live video=ps3fb:mode:<video mode id>

1) Start the Install Program
After the desktop has finished loading, double-click on the ‘Install’ icon.
2) Select the Default Language
Ubuntu can be installed with support for many different languages. Select your preferred language, then click ‘Forward’.
3) Select Your Location
Either click on the city closest to your location, or use the drop-down box to select your timezone, then click ‘Forward’.
4) Select Your Keyboard Layout
Ubuntu can be installed with support for many different keyboard layouts. Select your keyboard layout, then click ‘Forward’.
5) Partition the Harddrive
Ubuntu needs to know how to use the harddrive space you set aside earlier for OtherOS. It is easiest to let it automatically use the entire space by selecting the following, then click ‘Forward’.

The installer will warn you about the lack of a ‘NewWorld boot partition’. As you will be using the OtherOS bootloader, it is safe to ignore this warning and click ‘Continue’.
6) Document and Settings Migration
Ubuntu will search for any existing installations of Linux and present you with a list if any were found. Chances are it will find none as this is a fresh install. Click ‘Forward’.
7) Who Are You?
Ubuntu now needs to know more about you, the main user. Enter your name, username, password and give the computer a name. Then click ‘Forward’.
8) Ready to Install
The installer will now give you an overview of the installation information before finally starting to install. Verify that everything looks accurate, then click ‘Install’.
The installer will warn you again about the lack of a ‘NewWorld boot partition’. As you will be using the OtherOS bootloader, it is safe to ignore this warning and click ‘Continue’.
9) Reboot* Blah blah blah. Click on ‘Restart now’.
